The name of this small town comes from the Latin ‘Praedium Cerellianum’.
It belonged to the abbey of San Michele Arcangelo of Montescaglioso in the Middle Ages, then it was a feud belonging to several lords such as the Della Marras and the barons Formica.
In the town, it is possible to admire the feudal palace built in 1593, with a tower with egg-shaped base which contains a clock placed on columns. In the palace there is also a XVII century chapel which contains a choir and a painting portraying the Virgin Mary with the Infant by Giovanni De Gregorio.
The XVI century mother church of the Assunta is interesting from an artistic point of view. It contains two statues of St. James, one dating from the XIV century and the other dating from the XVII century.
Near the town, the chapel of the Madonna della Grotta, hollowed into the rock probably by a brigand, is worth visiting.
