The discovery of archaeological finds dating back to the Greek period leads us to believe that the town is quite old. In the feudal period Garaguso belonged to the Sanseverinos. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1694 and then rebuilt by the Revettera di Salandra family in the XVIII century.

The church of San Nicola di Mira, which contains a painting made by the Monk Deodato da Tolie in 1761 and a XIV century stoup, is important from an historic point of view and so is the parish church of the Assunta, which contains two canvases portraying the Assumption and St. Vincent.

The Holy Week rites are very touching, especially the Good Friday procession, during which the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows and of the dead Christ are carried on shoulders by widows and men.
