Commune in the province of Matera

The town was originally controlled by the Basil monks of St. Elia of Carbone and subsequently dominated by Pedro de Toledo, who had the baronial palace, commonly called Palazzaccio, built.

Near the beach there is a tower of sighting, built in the Aragonese time, whereas another tower cylindrical in shape can be admired in Terzo Madonna.

In Termitito, there are ruins of an important settlement of the Mycenaean Age, subsequently occupied by Greek colonists. The church of the Assunta, which contains the silver crown of a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1715 and some wooden sculptures dating from the XVIII century, is worth visiting.

The farm of Recoleta is also interesting. Scanzano is a developing seaside resort with very well-kept beaches, which attract a lot of tourists every year.
