It is a very old town, as the tombs and vases found in the area prove. It was first fortified by the Byzantines and then by the Normans.
In the time of the Aragonese domination, Miglionico became famous because all the barons of the kingdom opposing Ferdinand I of Aragon, king of Naples, gathered in the castle of the town, which belonged to the Sanseverino family, and feigned an act of obedience to the king, waiting for the Pope's help.
The feud was subsequently under the control of several noble families.
There are beautiful churches such as the mother church of Santa Maria Maggiore, with a wonderful Renaissance portal, the small church of the Trinità, containing frescoes dating from the middle of the XV century, and the church of San Francesco, flanked by a small monastery containing a wonderful polyptych by Cima di Conegliano dating from 1499.
