Commune in the province of Potenza

This village has ancient origins, as the discovery of archaeological finds in the neighbouring areas has demonstrated. In particular, a triangular gravestone was found. The writing on it shows that the place was initially called ‘ANXIA' and that it was a powerful and very rich town.

In the beginning it was a stronghold of the Longobards and then of the Normans. Later on it passed under the control of several feudal lords.

Some of the most beautiful places are Santa Lucia's Church, with a beautiful portal, decorated with old columns. Inside the Church a mediaeval stoup is kept; and Santa Maria's Chapel, where a portal in Late-Gothic style can be admired.

Also inside are some frescos dating to the end of the XVI century. The ‘Palazzo Baronale Zampaglione' is very interesting. In the parsonage hall one of the most beautiful cribs of Europe was crafted, containing several scenes. This is a masterpiece showing great attention to detail, worthy of the best artisan masters in the field.
