This village has ancient origins. In the Middle Ages it was the site of a Benedictine Monastery. In 1404 it was a self-governing fief, called ‘Stato di Noia’.
In 1863 it changed its name into the present one.Between the X and the XI centuries it sheltered some Albanian refugees.
In the Parish Church, in Romanic style (XVI century) there are a wooden Crucifix, a baptismal font in stone, the cover of a sarcophagus dating from the XVI century, some frescos and some marble relieves from the XIV century. In the old centre there are some ruins of the Feudal Castle.
Near the Rubbio Stream the ruins of the ‘Monastero of Santa Maria della Saectara’ can be seen.
Just like all the other villages in the area of the National Park of Pollino, Noepoli is surrounded by rich vegetation and is near the Farneta Wood, the ideal place for picking up mushrooms and chestnuts. There are some areas well equipped for leisure activities.
