Commune in the province of Potenza

The origins of this village date back to the XI century. It is characterised by the typical features of a mediaeval stronghold (with a Castle, towers and walls).

Tolve used to be first a Gothic, then a Longobard settlement, and was later conquered by the Normans.

Many places are worth visiting, such as the Church of San Pietro, with an imposing portal of the XV century, the Church of San Nicola (a statue of San Rocco is kept in it), the Convent of San Francesco, with its Church (in which is a precious choir) and an Arch of Towers, which is part of the walls.

Not far from the village, along the mountainside of the Moltone Mountain, there are the remains of a Roman villa, with a central court, rooms and spaces for agricultural labours and for keeping animals.

This territory is surrounded by wood and is a destination for all those who love nature.

The celebration of San Rocco di Tolve is well known at national level.
