Commune in the province of Potenza

This village dates back to Ottone di Sassonia, who had built his fortress on a rock after the Battle of Bovito. Of this fortress only some ruins still remain. It was the place where Enrico di Baviera, Enrico the son of Federico II, and Ottone di Brunwich were imprisoned. During the feudal period San Fele belonged to several lords until it was bought by the Doria family, in 1613.

Amongst the places that are worth visiting there are the Main Church, in which there is a canvas representing Santa Rosa da Viterbo, of the XVII century, and the Convent of Sant’Antonio of the Observant Monks, with some frescos of 1743. A beautiful Church is part of the Convent and inside it, there are a piece of altar of the XV century, a polyptych of the XVI century, a choir and a pulpit of the XVIII century.

Nearby there is the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Pierno, built in 1189.
