Commune in the province of Potenza

The origins of this village date back to the period of Greek colonisation. The finding of some ceramic vases dating from the VII-IV century B.C. is proof of the Greek presence in the area, as are some other objects in bronze, copper, gold and silver that were found in ‘Serra Lustrante'. These are finds that are now kept in some of the most important European museums.

San Luca Abate's Church and the Main Church are very interesting. The Main Church keeps a polyptych dating from the XVI century and a picture representing the Madonna, dating back to 1600. Quite unusual is San Vitale's Chapel, where some frescos of 1630 are to be found. These frescos represent episodes of the Saint's life. There is also a picture of the Crucifix with San Nicola and San Michele Arcangelo. Sant'Antonio's Chapel is also beautiful. In it frescos representing the ‘Madonna Assunta in Cielo' are kept. In San Luca's Chapel, a wooden statue of San Vitale can be found, which dates from the XVIII century.

This little village is an important religious centre, because it houses the Bishop's Palace, summer house of the Bishop of Tricarico.
