The old tradition of Banzi is proofed by the Tavola Bantina, an important document dating back to the I century B.C. and containing the statute of this village in Osco language. It is now kept in the National Museum in Naples. In this area some remains of a necropolis of the VII-IV centuries B.C. were found together with a Roman settlement.
In the centre of Banzi are the remains of the most ancient ‘Basilica’, founded by the Benedictines in the IX century. Nearby is S. Maria’s Church, dating back to 1089, with a facade of the XV century. Inside it is a painting of the XIV century, representing the Madonna con Bambino.
