This village, situated on the Vulture Mountain, was probably built after the Gothic invasion of ‘Candida Latinotum’, as the inhabitants of that settlement found shelter in this area. According to some other scholars, its name comes from the fact that the hill on which it was built is white. It is partially situated on a settlement that was lived in from the VII century to the IV century B.C.

Near the beautiful Church of San Donato, of the XIV century, there is a Monastery of the XIV century, which has a beautiful quadrangular cloister, with arcades on three sides. Here Franciscan Observants lived in the XVII century.

The Main Church, dedicated to ‘Santa Maria del Sepolcro’, was built in 1560 and has a beautiful portal of the XVII century.
