Commune in the province of Potenza

It is situated in a dominating position in the Valley of the Sauro Stream. Its origins are very ancient. In the X century it was destroyed by the Saracens and was not inhabited for a very long time. From the XV century on, it was the property of several noble families up to the Ruffo. The name of this place probably comes from the large landed estates being split into ‘pertiche’ and then entrusted to the farmers.

This village is characterised by narrow streets, lanes and houses built one on the other.

The Main Church of San Nicola di Bari is very interesting and inside Sant’Antonio’s Church there is a canvas representing the ‘Annunciazione’ and some statues of Sant’Antonio and the ‘Addolorata’.

There are just few ruins of the old Castle and of the wall; some ruins of the old bishop town called ‘Turri’, inhabited up to the XVII century, can be found, too.
