Commune in the province of Potenza

This village, built on the mountainside of a hill, was fortified in the Norman-Swabian period and changed lords up to 1775, when it became propriety of Benedetto Candida. In 1799, because of the Neapolitan Raisings which caused some violent fights, its inhabitants managed to obtain independence and raised the tree of freedom in the middle of the village.

The Castle, overlooking this village, keeps its feudal structure. Behind the Castle is S. Antonio’s Chapel: inside it, there are some frescos of the XVI century.

The Main Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, built in the XVI century, has a completely renovated facade and its main characteristic is a bell tower ending in a cusp.
