The old centre of this village is characterised by flights of steps and narrow lanes, through which it is possible to reach the imposing Castle with towers and embattlements built in 1200 and then rebuilt in 1400.
In San Francesco’s Church there are a wooden Crucifix dating from the XIV century, a choir dating from the XVI century, an organ of the XVII century, some canvases of the XVIII century, some frescos dating from the XIV and the XV centuries, and an important polyptych of 1523 by Frate Simone da Firenze. The Main Church dedicated to Santa Maria della Visitazione is also beautiful.
Just outside the village there is the old Convent of the Cappuccini, founded in 1596. Nearby the ‘Diga di Monte Cotugno’ was built. This is the biggest clay dam in Europe, with a surface of 20 sq. km. Nearby there is a sports centre.
In this village the poet Nicola Sole was born (1821-1859). He composed several sonnets and romances.
The Senise Pepper is very famous and in 1996 it achieved the Geographical Typical Indication.
